In December 1953, the State Re-organisation Commission was appointed by the Government of India to prepare for the creation of states on linguistic lines. The States Re-organisation Commission recommended the disintegration of Hyderabad state and to merge Marathi speaking region with the Bombay state and Kannada speaking region with Mysore state. The demand for a separate Telangana state has its origin in the early 1950’s. However, demands before S.R.C. or subsequent agitations from 1969 to 1973 for Statehood did not yield results, except for getting some agreements to safeguard the interests of this region. Later in 2001, agitation for the separate state under the leadership of
Sri K. Chandrasekhar Rao gathered momentum which resulted in the Central Government to initiate the process for the creation of Telangana on December 9th, 2009. However, this decision was soon rolled back on Dec. 23rd, 2009 which resulted in a massive movement involving all sections of people like students, Government employees, lawyers, RTC, Singareni collieries, and many others, which resulted in passing the bill for formation of Telangana state on 18th February 2014.

Finally, the state of Telangana was created on 2nd June 2014. The youngest state in India was born and it commenced its journey to usher in an era of overall development and prosperity for all stakeholders. The march towards “Bangaru Telangana” has gained momentum over the past few years as the state emerges as a benchmark to emulate within India.
