Global

The global textile ecosystem touches or impacts nearly every human being on the planet. The industry is currently valued at nearly US $3 trillion and includes the production, refinement, and sale of both synthetic and natural fibres used acrossa plethora of industries.

The industry includes a broad and diverse range of products with an even wider range of applications. This diversity is one of many factors that makes the textile industry one of the most vital engines of economic development of people all over the world. It is estimated that about 100 million people are employed in the textile industry worldwide.

China is the world’s leading producer and exporter of both raw textiles and garments. There are many developing countries ready to move up on the pecking order in this list in the years ahead as their investment into the textile or garment industry mature and a shift in the supply and demand unfolds. Preferential trade agreements also have their impact on the ability to be competitive. Countries such as India, Pakistan,Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and a number of South American countries have seen considerable traction in their textile markets in recent years. As China moves towards a technology and service-based economy, and labour prices continue to rise, it is imperativethat the supply chain will move away from China and into developing markets where labour is still relatively cheap and raw material is readily available.

Telangana

Telangana is the third largest producer of long staple cotton with production of around 50 lakh bales per annum. There are 33 spinning mills with a capacity of 10 lakh spindles, which consumes only about 20% of the cotton grown in the State while the rest 80% goes to other states for spinning. Capacity utilization of weaving industry in the State is negligible and there is not much processing capacity available in the State. There is no further downstream facility like processing and garmenting. The variation between raw cotton produce and the value addition to the raw cotton is huge. This opportunity can be leveraged by private textile manufacturers to create value add products.

Telangana is home to world famous handlooms which are found in clusters, the prominent clusters located at Pochampally, Gadwal, Narayanpet, and Siddipet.
